The ASKIA Learning Concept (ALC) is one of the fastest growing independent educational supplemental companies in the United States.
The Corporation creates, develops, and distributes educational material to be used at K-12 educational institutions, charter schools, and for home school students.
Founded by Kwame A. Askia, II in 1979, ALC initially focused on geography skills for elementary students. In 1982, the corporation started developing interdisciplinary, divergent, critical thinking software and offline-materials.
In 1995, the corporation published its critical thinking process. This process teaches students to think and is a viable tool of productivity. This tool was designed inline with the conclusions drawn by participants of the 1996 National Education Summit. At the time, governors, business leaders and other participants concluded that "efforts to set clear, common.... academic standards for students in a given school district or state are necessary for improved student achievement."
Just setting those standards, however, is not enough. Teachers must be trained to read, understand, teach, re-teach and test subject matter in the core content areas of those standards. With the ASKIA Learning Concept, teachers are given the tools needed to make the standards a sustainable part of the curriculum.
The mission of ALC is to produce effective critical thinkers and learners. We do this by providing manipulative and application software and off-line materials. We are cognizant of the differences in learning styles and allow for the same through modes of instruction.
ALC’s corporate offices are located in Atlanta, Georgia and Sacramento, California. The company provides services to schools throughout the United States |
